California Agriculture
As a leader in agriculture in the United States, California produces almost half of the US's fruit, vegetable and nuts. In 2011, the 81,500 farms received $43.5 billion for output. (Caliornia Agricultural Output Center)

Irrigation
Unlike much of the rest of the nation, California's farms are irrigated, and so do not entirely depend on precipitation. However, runoff from snowpack in the Sierra Nevadas is a major source of fresh water.
